Welcome to the Global Network for Road Safety Legislators. We support the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety and the Sustainable Development Goals target to halve road deaths and injuries by 2020. Parliamentarians can play a decisive role to help make our roads safe and stop the carnage that kills over 3500 people every day. The Manifesto #4RoadSafety issued by our Leadership Council highlights the policies and laws that can help prevent this tragic waste of human life on the world’s roads.
The Manifesto #4RoadSafety includes ten key recommendations to encourage parliamentarians to support the current United Nation’s Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020) and endorses the World Health Organisation SAVE LIVES package of road injury prevention. The package recommends adoption by all UN Member States of laws to tackle speeding, drink driving, non-use of motorcycle helmets, seat belts and child restraints, and the application of acceptable vehicle and road safety construction standards.
Parliamentarians worldwide are being urged to endorse the Manifesto #4RoadSafety and sign a statement of support in advance of an important debate on road safety during the forthcoming 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. Parliamentarians can register their support by filling in the form.
The Global Network for Road Safety Legislators was established at an international meeting of Parliamentarians held in London in December 2016 which adopted the Westminster Declaration. The Chairman of Leadership Council of the Global Network for Road Safety Legislators is Barry Sheerman who also serves as Chairman of the UK’s Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. The Global Network is hosted by the Towards Zero Foundation, a UK registered charity whose patron is HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
I endorse the Manifesto #4RoadSafety and the WHO’s SAVE LIVES package in support of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety and the SDG target to halve road deaths and injuries by 2020
